We have heard classical and opera influences in metal for decades, but often it can be overly theatrical, even comic. This is bombastic, no doubt, but so sincere and appreciative of the sources it is inspired by. Mega.

Funeral Fog April 19th can't arrive fast enough! @Ippocalyptica brought me here, and at first listen I was instantly hooked! This is easily going to be one of the most essential black metal albums of 2024!

Ippocalyptica One of 2024’s wildest rides! Everything Ezrin touches turns to gold, and Folterkammer shows this in a roundabout way by blending together three genres that should not work well in unison…but totally do here. The music itself is indeed impressive enough, though not necessarily something to write home about on its own, whereas the vocals - both clean and harsh - are stunning and memorable, and make the overall package a force with which to be reckoned. Black metal plus opera for the win! Favorite track: Anno Domina.

This New York-Swiss-French ensemble skillfully fuses elements of Baroque music, black metal, opera, jazz, and classical into a captivating, yet unsettling amalgamation. Their Century Media debut, "Weibermacht," a term translated with octave-flexing prowess by Andromeda Anarchia as "Bitch Power," immediately delves into the provocative, pushing boundaries from the very first track, "Anno Domina." Sung entirely in German, the song initiates a 45-minute thematic plunge into the depths of BDSM, where pain blurs with pleasure.
