about

Very few bands can effectively mix intelligence with intensity like Southern California’s INTRONAUT, who essentially walk a fine line between psychedelic brutality, captivating hooks and devastating yet unpredictable time changes. This is the essence of thinking man’s metal and something so refreshing that it should serve as a vicious wake up call to masses forcing the entire genre to take notice.

INTRONAUT took metal in a new direction with their Century Media debut, “Prehistoricisms” (US only), but their sophomore offering, “Valley of Smoke”, will quickly solidify them as genre visionaries. This stellar new album, which Decibel Magazine praises as “One of the most anticipated albums of 2010”, is set for a fall release and was once again produced by the acclaimed Josh Newell (Jane’s Addiction).

Sacha Dunable (vocals/guitars) states: “The new album was quite exhausting, but it's paid off. Josh Newell killed it on the production side of things even while bogged down with some more lucrative projects, and we were lucky enough to have this guy Justin (from some band I won't name drop, but will say that it rhymes with ‘Cool’) come in and co-write/perform on a song with us where we have two drummers and two bassists going at once. That's right folks, pure excess. Other than that, this record rules so much that I'm literally embarrassed to have been a part of everything we've done up until now. Not to sound pretentious, but this is absolutely the best music ever made.”

INTRONAUT is the brainchild of drummer Danny Walker (Jesu, Phobia, Uphill Battle) and Dunable (Anubis Rising) that came together in 2004 as both were each looking for a new musical project. Together they conceptualized the direction of the band for months prior to actually coming together to jam. The group would quickly be rounded out by Lester and guitarist Leon Del Muerte. They soon recorded and self-released the “Null” demo. This immediately caught the interest of Canada’s Goodfellow Records, who quickly signed the band and re-released “Null” as an EP in February 2006. Around this time, the band wrote and recorded their first full-length LP, “Void”, which was released by Goodfellow in August 2006.

In 2007, the band released three new songs in the form of “The Challenger” EP, which was the last recording to feature guitarist Leon Del Muerte, who quit to pursue other interests. INTRONAUT took metal in a new direction with their Century Media debut, “Prehistoricisms”, which was also the first release with Dave Timnick on guitars, but their sophomore offering, “Valley of Smoke”, will quickly solidify them as genre visionaries. The group toured relentlessly in support of the highly acclaimed “Prehistoricisms” alongside such major acts as Mastodon, Cynic, Isis, High On Fire and Kylesa. These road warriors have in essence perfected their live show and watching them is a pure sonic assault of all the senses.
