about

For proof that from great suffering comes great art, look no further than INTO ETERNITY founding guitarist/principal songwriter Tim Roth. Much as he drew inspiration from his mother's passing when writing the band's critically acclaimed 2006 release, “The Scattering Of Ashes”, Roth again found the strength and resilience to turn negatives into positives on the "extreme progressive metal" band's forthcoming release, “The Incurable Tragedy”.

INTO ETERNITY's first concept album, “The Incurable Tragedy”, also marked the first recording effort with new members Justin Bender (guitars) and Steve Bolognese (drums). This offering was inspired by the deaths of Roth's two best friends, brothers who succumbed to cancer within two months of one another. To make matters worse, when the band began demoing new material shortly after the completion of the Scattering tour - a star-making year of shows that saw the band perform alongside such internationally renowned acts as Dream Theater, Lamb of God, Megadeth, Opeth, Arch Enemy, The Haunted and Dark Tranquillity - Roth's father was diagnosed with cancer as well. Showing no mercy, the disease claimed his life last year, just 10 days before Christmas.

Roth channeled his emotions into a moving and riveting album, which is sure to propel the band to new heights within the genre. This past spring, the band took a break from the studio to tour throughout North America with like-minded progressive metal shredders Symphony X. That trek was followed by the band's first tour of Japan, where they performed alongside At The Gates, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mayhem and Pig Destroyer at the prestigious "Extreme The Dojo” festivals.

Founded in Regina, Sasketchewan by Roth in the late '90s, INTO ETERNITY first caught the attention of a small Dutch label that released their self-titled debut in 2000. Two years later, sophomore album “Dead or Dreaming” – released internationally by Century Media Records, and supported by tours with Dying Fetus, Kataklysm and Hate Eternal – formally introduced the band to the metal world.

It was 2004's “Buried In Oblivion”, though, that asserted the band as a true innovator of the metal genre, as it seamlessly melded the seemingly disparate worlds of extreme metal, hooky hard rock and challenging progressive music.

The fourth album “The Scattering of Ashes” cemented the band's status as leaders of a bold new genre, which they've dubbed extreme progressive metal. A-list tours with the likes of Megadeth, Lamb of God and Dream Theater exposed the band to larger audiences and gave both Roth and Block prominent platforms to showcase their virtuosic talents.

One of the most critically acclaimed bands in metal and undoubtedly one of its hardest-working, INTO ETERNITY borrows from all aspects of heavy music to form the perfect blend of technicality, memorable songwriting, traditional heavy metal and the sheer savagery of metal's extreme genres. The band will spend the late summer as part of the Summer Slaughter Canada package alongside Necrophagist, Dying Fetus and many more. This will lead them into a massive North American trek with Iced Earth this fall.

“The Incurable Tragedy” features a slew of tracks with the band’s trademarked heavy grooves, stop-on-a-dime time changes, reflective lyrics, memorable choruses, shredding solos, and vocals that range from guttural growls to soaring harmonies. This album proves to be the perfect cure for those suffering from a lack of progressive metal perfection and is sure to rank upon many top ten year end lists.
