about

Thrashback 2000? In case there is a thrash-revival close by, then Frankfurt’s beer-battered metalheads Tankard doubtlessly deserve to get credited as the most constant and uncompromising act within the genre: 18 years of existence, a dozen releases and countless shows/tours throughout central Europe, as well as rather “unusual” places such as Japan, Bulgaria and Turkey and still no signs of remorse or slowing down. Tankard started punk-thrashing in a NWOBHM-influenced way back in 1982 and quickly gained notoriety within the growing metal movement (Destruction, Sodom, Kreator...) for their demo tapes “Heavy Metal Vanguard” and “Alcoholic Metal”, and soon thereafter they got signed and started out a great series of classic thrash metal records with “Zombie Attack”. In the meantime, Tankard had matured and despite some line-up changes they went through over the years, the band developed a unique and easily recognisable style with their mixture of headbanging riffs and a decent dose of fun –yet never forgetting about a socially aware amount of lyrical content- and some relentless speed that never fails to get crowds everywhere going wild. “Kings Of Beer” mercilessly continues the proud Tankard tradition: Harris Johns behind the production board once again, and songs like the driving thrashers “Dark Exile”, “Tattoo Coward” or “Talk Show Prostitute”, the Manowar (!) styled title-track as well as the re-recorded version of the ’84 demo classic “Incredible Loudness” should guarantee yet another great listening experience and some more Tankard-style friendly and catchy yet violent fun. It’s time to celebrate again...cups up!
