sachavonkarl74 Good thing that Century Media put this one on BC. This is yet again another very fine Finnish act, proposing here their Opus Magnum in terms of blackened folk pagan metal. Epic and majestic release of 2016, would love to have a NEW full-length by Moonsorrow! Favorite track: Jumalten Aika.

Since 2011, the worldwide fanbase of Finnish heathen folk/black metal commando Moonsorrow had to wait for the band’s seventh studio album. Now, in 2016, the time is nigh to join in on a truly fascinating, sinister journey back into the dark past. Filled with references to classic Nordic black metal from Mayhem, early Enslaved over to Ulver and Bathory, atmospheric pagan romanticism, and nature’s invincible might, Moonsorrow have further leaned towards the black metal vibe following their body of work since forming in 1995. Folk-ish elements are still present yet flavour “Jumalten Aika” in a moodier, epic sense.

Between 1996 and 2001, Moonsorrow released 4 demos and an album before signing with Spinefarm. The 2nd album, “Voimasta ja kunniasta” was released in 2001 and its follow-up “Kivenkantaja” (2003) already hit the Finnish album charts at #16. It also took the band to their first shows abroad in 2004. “Verisäkeet” (2005) reached the charts as well, and saw Moonsorrow play their 1st show on the other side of the Atlantic and join Primordial for the band’s 1st full European tour, both in 2006.

Their 5th album, “Viides luku – Hävitetty” (charted #16 in Finland, #72 in Germany) included just two songs, both of them checking in at around the 30 minute mark, paving way to new heights of epic pagan art, continued on the 68-minute long “EP” “Tulimyrsky” with another 30-minute song.

2011 saw the release of the majestic, “Varjoina kuljemme kuolleiden maassa” (= As Shadows We Walk In The Land Of The Dead), which charted at #7 in Finland, a full-fledged concept album about a world after annihilation.
