about

Special edition containing two bonus tracks previously only available on the Japanese CD pressing.

Only a few bands have been as influential as Paradise Lost who set the blueprint for a whole genre with their album “Gothic” in 1991. Their career start in 1990 with the release of “Lost Paradise”, since then their constant reinvention and brazen attitude to musical experimentation has always allowed them to maintain a constant relevance despite the myriad fads and short-lived scenes that have emerged over the last two decades. With the 10th album “Paradise Lost” (2005) it looked like a cyclus ended. In the upcoming Paradise Lost documentary “Over The Madness” (directed by Diran Noubar and debuting at the Cannes Fim Festival in May 2007), guitarist Greg Mackintosh said about the last album: “It does feel like the end of something and we have to start with something new…”. In late 2006 Paradise Lost signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records and started working on something new that soon will become another classic: “In Requiem”. Their friend Rhys Fulber (Fear Factory, Frontline Amsembly, etc.) took over the production again and Mike Frazer (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Metallica, etc.) helped to get the perfect mix. Everything else can be explained much better by the band in their own words.

Nick Holmes (vocals): "We wanted to make a heavier, darker Paradise Lost album. But it was also important to write songs that encompass the melody that has become very much an integral part of our music over the last 10 years".

Greg Mackintosh (lead guitar): The album "In Requiem" is a very conscious decision by us to take our sound in a more raw, organic, less polished direction. Musically, it is about finding the balance between brutality and empathy, between horror and beauty. Neither a celebration nor a lamentation. Simply the emotions that arise, being surrounded by life and death.
