Matten This will be a bit of an outlier in my collection. I remember listening a lot during high school and seeing as it got on BC, felt like I had to get it.
A little proggy, a little thrashy, has the theatrical feel of power metal, albeit with much bleaker lyrics and overall sound.
Jeff Loomis' riffing and shredding left quite an impression the first time I heard this, when I decided to go on a music-listening walk during a thunderstorm. Favorite track: Inside Four Walls.

about

NEVERMORE´s 1999 masterpiece Dreaming Neon Black showed the perfect balance between all the different components of their sound. There were small, complex mini-dramas as well as super-tight thrashers and quiet, emotional tunes opposed to angry noise eruptions. NEVERMORE managed to create an album equipped with numerous non-metal trademarks which sound appealing to the usually very sensitively reacting true metal community. Or maybe it was still metal enough that it could not even upset the die-hard purists? Anyway, it is a matter of fact that the career of our Seattle heroes just went straight up. Seemingly endless, but still extremely successful tours followed the release, the US was toured not less than four times, Europe was frequently visited (LeFay, Sacred Steel and Nocturnal Rites) and they even stopped in Australia for a number of shows.

After all this touring the band did not hesitate to attack the recordings of their fourth album Dead Heart In A Dead World. This is the first time they have worked with Andy Sneap (Machine Head, Testament, Judas Priest, and of course Sabbat) for the production in Village Productions Studios, in Tornillo, Texas. Even if the material is a bit more catchy NEVERMORE's trademarks are still undeniable, and no one will have to do without Warrel's unique vocals and his bizarre lyrics that give insight into Mr. Dane's wayward emotional life. Of course you will not miss the complex guitar arrangements or the compelling rhythmic backbone. NEVERMORE are ready for the next millennium.
