about

Life can be pretty damn unjust at times.... In 1995 NOCTURNAL RITES´ debut album, In A Time Of Blood And Fire, was released through Dark Age Music and highly acclaimed by critics, but this piece of vintage heavy metal only became popular amongst the selective insiders. Therefore Hammerfall were erroneously celebrated as founders of the second wave of melodic speed metal when the marketing machinery started pushing them in 1997. After finding a new home with Century Media Records, NOCTURNAL RITES' second album Tales Of Mystery And Imagination not only gained them mass approval, but also negative feedback claiming that they jumped on the bandwagon and just imitated this sound - even though they were already playing it for more than six years. That's what you call real bad luck!

Still, the band were never even close to feeling uncertain about their sound. After touring with Overkill, Angel Dust, LeFay, Sacred Steel and Nevermore and the great success of their next album The Sacred Talisman (entering on the official Japanese charts at #83!), NOCTURNAL RITES´ new masterpiece, Afterlife, was recorded. The pummeling double-bass and extensive riffs will forcefully snap your spine into two while guitars and keyboards duel for catchier lead honours. To top it all off, Lindkvist's vocal-lines effortlessly find their way into your ear canal, thus helping make Afterlife the band's most memorable release to date. NOCTURNAL RITES develop heavier tunes that may remind you of Riot's Thundersteel or Rainbow on a whole pallet of Red Bull rather than Helloween and Iron Maiden (bands who are usually used as models for the aeons of copycats hailing from Sweden nowadays). If life after death sounds anything like this album, then it will be nothing but pure Headbanger's Heaven no matter which Afterlife path you end up embracing!
